| Gamefreak:You know what makes grass types even better? Adding an additional ice weakness. Fire type seems generic, praying for a cool dual type that goes from quadrupedal to bipedal. Water type is another seal version ugh....wish they went water dragon with the typing at least for some cool design. Haven't really been into pokemon since Black 2 and White 2, which imo were some of the more underrated games in the series. XY added mega evolutions to pokes that could have evolved naturally and gave pokemon that were OP as fuck even better stats. Gen 3 remake was alright but Emerald outclassed Ruby and Sapphire and it showed in the remake since there was no Battle Frontier. So idk if I'll even get these games, if mega flygon gets confirmed maybe I'll have a change of heart. |

| Worst gen thus far... Usually even in the worst looking generations there is at least 1 starter which I like.... In this case there is none. Hopefully the evolutions look better , or there are better looking ones you can catch early on. |

I can't figure what kind of nose it has got, and is just a bloated pokemon although flying/grass seems very helpful. first and 2nd gen were just awesome designing wise. I haven't even bothered to watch after 4th gen. |

| They're pretty bad but what can you do. After nearly 1000 Pokemon, ideas start to run thin. Overall, I kinda like the owl. The fire cat is meh (I'm guessing it's fire/dark, which'll be pretty cool). The water seal is dumb. I like what they've done with Gen 7's aesthetics. It's like the design change between FF VII and FF VIII. GF got rid of the chibi sprites and made the overworld completely 3D. I have to applaud them for that. I just hope they've improved the game mechanics as well. I want a better story more than anything. A difficulty setting would also be nice. |

It's vastly superior to a flying orange dragon or a tortoise with cannons. |

| They look fine to me, which is surprising to me because Pokemon designs have fallen a lot. They usually look like Digimon wannabes who then decided to try and be Transformers or something. At least they are cute though. |

| I think I figured out why Popplio rubs me the wrong way so much as a starter; it's less standard than usual for a starter. Most starters are pretty straight forward or have some pretty standard mixes: Like pretty much it was always a creature with some element of nature incorporated into its design or two animals combined with one element of nature. All sound like pretty good standard Pokemon to start with before you go on to explore what interesting and sometimes zany creatures which await you outside the lab. And then there's a clown starter. Or a design based off a clown compared to the other starters which are just based off other creatures or elements of nature solely. Like, it doesn't even start relatively calm in order to turn into something a little more zany as they evolve/add a zany element like most of Kalos starters, or Oshawott where they just straight up bring in anthro versions of the previous evolution or something; Popplio just STARTS with a zany element-- which is really more fit for non-starters. Now for some, a Pokemon who doesn't fit the usual pattern is going to be appealing. As for me, I guess just running into something outside of the usual pattern will take some getting used to...? |

You do realize Flying doesn't resist Flying, right? And I always have an HM slave or two in my campaign party so there's no need for me to curse one of my main Pokemon with an HM. And the main thing that sucks about Grass/Flying type in one is that it's 4x weak to Ice moves, and almost every water type can learn Ice Beam so Rowlet will die vs. Popplio when it shouldn't. |

| Not a big fan of Popplio to be honest, this might just end up being the first Gen where I do'nt pick the Water Starter on my first Playthrough (unless he ends up having some sort of killer evolution). On the other hand, Rowlet just.........amuses me, and the Fire starter reminds me of that cat from Blue exorcist, but reaaly Emo-looking |
